The Museum of the Moving Image
I visited the glorious Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. I didn’t know what to expect at first, but as soon as I stepped off the elevator to the 3rd floor I loved what I saw. I participated in the interactive voiceover exhibit. It is situated in a separated room with a realistic movie microphone. I chose to replace Eddie Murphy’s voice in a scene from Coming To America. It gave me insight to how voice over actresses and actors work. It is an aspect of media that I would love to work in some day. Another section of the museum that I found to be intriguing was the virtual reality and games section. When thinking of the term “media,” film and television are usually the first things to come to mind. A form of media less associated with the term is gaming. I really enjoyed seeing all the old equipment that used to be used to record moving images, I couldn’t believe how big the old cameras were. It’s amazing how far we have come from taking many pictures together and moving them fast to create a moving image, to having hand held consumer HD video cameras.
